This week has been all about planning for the President’s Dinner and Hometown Hockey coming to Downtown Belleville.
We are shifting gears with the President’s Dinner this year to focus on Celebrating YOU! Last year, the Board presented the first ever Belleville Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award to Maurice Rollins. As we discussed whether we awarded one again this year, we quickly came to the conclusion there are many, many people deserving of credit for the work they do. The QBAA is an excellent venue for recognizing businesses but there is little in our community to recognize the people behind those businesses unless they are part of another organization.
The result of that discussion was the development of four additional categories and a long list of names of the people within our business community that deserve to be awarded for their efforts as Visionary, Founder, Mentor or Citizen. These categories also helped us build some background criteria for what the Lifetime Achievement award should represent as well.
And so, the President’s Dinner will be an star-studded awards night (because everyone who comes IS a Star!)
We also hope it will offer inspiration.
Regardless the size of your business or number of employees you have (or don’t) this is YOUR night. The people we’ve chosen for this year’s awards built their businesses with the same ambition that drives you… and that’s why you belong at this event, too!

Quick on the heels of the President’s Dinner, we have Hometown Hockey coming to Belleville! Not sure what that is? Basically, Belleville has been chosen as one of 24 cities as the backdrop to host the Ron McLean & Tara Slone commentating on a Sunday night NHL game. The game is broadcast (happens to be Anaheim & Edmonton) on big screens but the whole weekend is filled with family-friendly events that are free! This is an incredible opportunity to show the country what Belleville has to offer.
This weekend, we’re launching the #HometownHockey #BellevilleON #BellevilleBucketList campaigns and we’ve been pushing out our “buttons” all week. This is a chance for all of us to step back and think of something we actually love to do in Belleville – top on the list for 1650 people who participated in a poll over the holidays was “walking the Riverfront Trail” so we’re going down to Zwick’s tonight and catching some footage of that experience.
You can participate by getting a button and taking a photo/video and posting it on your favourite social media outlet (using the hashtags above) – promote for more likes & shares to win some great prizes! And if your business is one of those that provides a great experience in Belleville, come get some buttons and have your best customers share their experience next time they’re in! We are hoping the more photos/videos we have – the more will get shared through the national exposure of the commentator broadcast on Sunday, February 25.
