The Belleville Chamber of Commerce (BCC) brought the ribbon and scissors to a grand opening on Wednesday, September 23, to celebrate Legacy Events, owned by Jen French, at 4211 Old Highway 2. Local dignitaries attended to mark the occasion, including City of Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis, BCC CEO Jill Raycroft, BCC Member Services Specialist Cristina Cadavid, and representatives from the MP and MPP offices.
This Saturday, September 26, Legacy Events welcomes the community to visit between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. during an Open House event to celebrate the launch of the business.
Legacy Events is the next chapter for Jen, who grew up in Belleville and has more than 15 years of experience in the catering and event industry. Her team began by hosting catered events at The Dugout, but growing demand soon outgrew that space. French saw a continued need for a large, versatile event space, and set out to bring her team’s skills to larger events such as weddings and large corporate events.
Tucked back in the woods, the venue is designed to fit a wide range of group sizes. Its large main event space can be divided into two separate private rooms, which are soundproof and offer optional separate access. Legacy also features a conference room, a large reception space, and a beautiful outdoor patio that can host wedding ceremonies, served meals, or intimate performances by local artists.
Getting there took patience. COVID-19 changed the project’s entire timeline, and once ground was broken, the property proved very wet, requiring trenching and increased drainage so that nobody’s special day would be impacted. The first wedding held at Legacy even saw a sudden sun shower mid-ceremony, which the couple and the Legacy team took as a sign of good luck and of great things to come.

“We catered events for years, but as we saw the need for larger-scale options in our community, we knew it was time to grow. Now, we’re able to cater the larger events our community has been asking for,” Jen French said.
“Seeing our first events come together – from the decor and meal service to the smiles and gratitude from our guests as they headed out the door, it all confirmed that we are on the right path,” she said. “It’s been a long time coming, and we’re honoured to be part of these special events.”
Jen also thanked those who helped bring Legacy to life, including her dedicated family, friends, and incredible staff, all of whom are all excited to be on this journey together. She also acknowledged the contractors and engineers, and the beautifully skilled landscapers at C&L Landscaping, who helped make the whole property and vision come together.
